It’s been awhile…

Dear Friends,

It has been awhile since I have posted on my parenting blog.

Basically, I’ve been busy with life, just like all dads and moms.

Three years ago my second child, a daughter, was born. It was just as thrilling as when my oldest daughter was born. We are expecting #3 this summer, so it’s about to get real busy again. Time to re-read my baby prep book for guys!

COVID-19 turned everything upside down. In a way, it made things hectic with the ever-changing health policies and unpredictable school shutdowns. In other ways it slowed life down–my wife and I had 50% work from home schedules and just about everything about regular life got canceled.

One of the good things that was born of the pandemic was my wife’s home-based business. She started a Korean baby birthday party rental business. We thought  we could provide a better service than existed at the time in Toronto. The business flourished, so much so that it enabled my wife to quit her day job. Ever since our lives have stabilized considerably since my wife works whenever she wants and can handle things like school pick-ups and extracurricular activities.

My work as a medical physicist is rewarding as always. I have also started a science blog on Substack, hope you can check it out if you are interested in this sort of thing.

Recently I reviewed my book sales, website statistics, and Quora posts for the first time in a long time. I was surprised that I have been getting a consistent number of views even though this blog was on hiatus.

The reason why I started this parenting blog in the first place was that I wanted to make a positive dent in the world. The family is the basic building block in a society. Healthy and happy families make healthy and happy societies. It is challenging but also rewarding to build a healthy and happy family. I could speak to some of that with my experience as a dad. My hope with this blog is that what I have to say is helpful to others.

ADadsGuide.org moving forwards

As I’ve said before, it’s been awhile since I’ve posted. Moving forward, I do intend to regularly post about some of the many ideas I’ve had about parenting, family, work, health, education, and all the other issues that dads have to constantly juggle.

One thing that I will do is abandon my project 50 Things I Will Teach My Kids. I think that one of the reasons why I stopped posting on this blog was that the project was too daunting, that I’d never really finish it. So, my posts from now on won’t follow a large format as such. I think it will lead to greater variety and wider interest for you.

Many ideas abound in my head. I want to tell you about why I think home-based businesses are awesome, an update on A Man’s Guide to Newborn Babies as it hits its 5 year anniversary, how priorities utterly change as your family grows, fighting against toddler tyranny, the freedom of letting go of ego, and how to teach kids about virtues.

I apologize for not being here for a stretch. I will commit more time to this space, because I think parenting is important. I hope you’ll visit ADadsGuide.org from time to time.
